Stefaan Six is a doctoral researcher in the Social Health Sciences at the Mental Health and Wellbeing research group at VUB, where he has been a staff member since 2016. He is currently working on his PhD project about the assessment of pain and discomfort during palliative sedation. Stefaan completed his undergraduate studies at Ghent University, where he obtained a first cycle diploma (“candidate”) in Psychology and a master’s degree in Comparative Science of Cultures (with a focus on medical anthropology).
He has (co-)authored several academic papers (for an overview see https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Stefaan_Six). He is a Certified Publons Academy Peer Reviewer and has reviewed for International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being, Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, Journal of Primary Care & Community Health and Qualitative Health Research. Stefaan is also a lecturer for the course Qualitative research methods for the health sciences (professor Reginald Deschepper) in the preparatory programme for Master of Science in Health Care Management and Policy and Master of Science in Management, Care and Policy in Gerontology.
Stefaan is effective member of the Faculty Council of the Faculty for Medicine and Pharmacy and substitute member of the Education Council at VUB. Additionally he is a member of the Belgian Association of Public Health (BAPH), the European Public Health Association (EPHA), the Belgian Pain Society (BPS) and is member of the scientific advisory board for the Lifestyle as medicine non-profit organization (LifeMe vzw).
