Stefaan Six is a postdoctoral researcher at the Mental Health and Wellbeing research group at VUB, where he has been a staff member since 2016. Stefaan completed his undergraduate studies at Ghent University, where he obtained a first cycle diploma (“candidate”) in Psychology and a master’s degree in Comparative Science of Cultures (with a focus on medical anthropology). In 2020 he completed his joint PhD at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Prof. Reginald Deschepper) and the Université de Liège (Prof. Steven Laureys) with a dissertation entitled "Towards a better understanding of what palliative sedated patients experience", resulting in the double degree of PhD in Social Health Sciences and PhD of Public Health.

He is also a Certified Publons Academy Peer Reviewer and is reviewer for several top-tier journals, including Journal of Pain and Symptom Management (Q1), Qualitative Health Research (Q1), Journal of Medical Internet Research (Q1), International Journal of Qualitative Methods (Q1) and many more... Stefaan has also been a lecturer for the course Qualitative research methods for the health sciences (under prof. Reginald Deschepper) in the preparatory programme for Master of Science in Health Care Management and Policy and Master of Science in Management, Care and Policy in Gerontology.
Stefaan is effective member of the Faculty Council of the Faculty for Medicine and Pharmacy, Faculty Board member and substitute member of the Education Council at VUB. Additionally, he is a member of the Belgian Association of Public Health (BAPH), the European Public Health Association (EPHA), the Belgian Pain Society (BPS) and is member of the scientific advisory board for the Lifestyle as medicine non-profit organization (LifeMe vzw).
