Stefaan Six
Biography
Stefaan Six is a postdoctoral researcher at the Mental Health and Wellbeing research group at VUB, where he has been a staff member since 2016. Stefaan completed his undergraduate studies at Ghent University, where he obtained a first cycle diploma (“candidate”) in Psychology and a master’s degree in Comparative Science of Cultures (with a focus on medical anthropology). In 2020 he completed his joint PhD at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Prof. Reginald Deschepper & Prof. Johan Bilsen) and the Université de Liège (Prof. Steven Laureys) with a dissertation entitled "Towards a better understanding of what palliative sedated patients experience", resulting in the double degree of PhD in Social Health Sciences and PhD of Public Health.

He is also a Certified Publons Academy (Web of Science) Peer Reviewer and is reviewer for several top-tier journals, including Journal of Pain and Symptom Management (Q1), Qualitative Health Research (Q1), Journal of Medical Internet Research (Q1), International Journal of Qualitative Methods (Q1) and many more... He is an Academic Editor for PLOS ONE (Q2) and a Review Editor for Frontiers in Public Health (Q1).
Stefaan is also a lecturer for the course Qualitative research methods for the health sciences in the preparatory programme for Master of Science in Health Care Management and Policy and Master of Science in Management, Care and Policy in Gerontology.
Stefaan has been an effective member of the Faculty Council of the Faculty for Medicine and Pharmacy, Faculty Board member and substitute member of the Education Council at VUB for several years. Currently he is a member of the Education Council on Management and Policy in Health Care. Additionally, he is a member of the Belgian Association of Public Health (BAPH), the European Public Health Association (EPHA) and the Association for Medical Humanities (AMH).
He is currently appointed to the IMAGICA interdisciplinary research program and is conducting research on Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS) on mental health and psychosocial factors in patients with Brugada Syndrome and in patients with inherited cardiomyopathies.
